Barney Frank to Retire

Last night the news services were all a-flutter over the announcement that Representative Barney Frank would be retiring after this term in office.  The man is getting old, can hardly blame him for wanting to slow down.  Age, coupled with his state's redistricting plan promised a campaign that would be difficult and likely end in failure.
Whatever the reason, I am glad the sumbitch is throwing in the towel.
DGJ offers this picture taken at the counter of a local business.
The unintended consequences of politicians best plans, are often made clear by the simplest of messages.

Want to Race?

DGJ was kind enough to share this picture with me. During his lunch break, was in the drive through lane behind a really fat man with a sense of humor.
First picture,

zoom on the bumper sticker.

Sorry officer, I thought you wanted to race.
That is a big man.

Apparently the author of Little Johnny jokes is branching out.

Wrong on a couple of levels.

Cattle Guards

Sent to my by a coworker that has better feel for sarcasm than most...
But not me.
Thank you Robert G.

For those of you who have never traveled to the west, or southwest, cattle guards are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle from crossing over that area. For some reason the cattle will not step on the 'guards', probably because they fear getting their feet caught between the rails. (People in the south also know what cattle guards are.)

A few months ago, President Obama received and was reading a report that there were over 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado . The Colorado ranchers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, so he ordered the Secretary of the Interior to fire half of the cattle guards immediately!

Before the Secretary of the Interior could respond and presumably try to straighten President Obama out on the matter, Vice-President Joe Biden intervened with a request that...before any cattle guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining to become Arizona border guards. "Times are hard", said Joe Biden, "it's only fair to the cattle guards and their families!"

And these two guys are running our country.

There are times that I wish there was a model that worked on humans.

You and a Guest

Trust on Issues

Results seem plausible, though in some cases the gaps are smaller than I would have expected.
This past weekend I had shared Thanksgiving dinner with a lady, a self described "die hard liberal" proclaimed that conservatives and Republicans all have a fear based belief system. No doubt there is fear of what can happen of liberal policies are allowed to flourish, but I must say mam, that the set beliefs is primarily a reaction to practices that WE SEE are wasteful and ineffective. It is not fear, it is experience, and disgust with it.

Congress.org (congress.org) presents: M E G A V O T E  November 14, 2011

In this MegaVote for Georgia's 13th Congressional District:

Recent Congressional Votes -
* Senate: Motion to Proceed; Net Neutrality disapproval  Censureship revisited
* Senate: Motion to Proceed; Cross-border air pollution rule disapproval Sucking up to greens
* Senate: Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act  Stroke the lobbyists, then wash your hands.

Upcoming Congressional Bills -
* Senate: Energy-Water, Financial Services, State-Foreign Operations appropriations  Spend, spend , spend.
* House: Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act  Stroke the lobbyists.
* House: Coast Guard authorization  No question.
* House: Balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution  Don't waste your time on it.
* House: National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011  Do it, do it.

Recent Senate Votes:
Motion to Proceed; Net Neutrality disapproval
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=200&chamber=S&congress=1121
Vote Rejected (46-52, 2 Not Voting)
The Senate rejected a move to prohibit the Federal Communications Commissions "net neutrality" rule from taking effect on November 20.  The rule will prohibit broadband service providers from blocking content or applications.  A faux vote on a rule that never should have been installed.  LIberal media does not have the following of conservative based media therefore Democrats try to install rules to thwart the strength of their opponents.  Probably a big to do about nothing, anything politicains create can be reversed and in reality they cannot hinder speech given in a truly free manner.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YES
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YES
Motion to Proceed; Cross-border air pollution rule disapproval
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=201&chamber=S&congress=1121
Vote Rejected (41-56, 3 Not Voting)
The Senate rejected this move to nullify an Environmental Protection Agency rule on cross-state air pollution targeting emissions from power plants.  perhaps we should start calling the Democratic Part the part of regulation, endlessly piling on rules that limit business's ability to succeed, all the while claiming that they are not.  A recent study showed that new regulations installed since 2008 have added 40 billion dollars of cost to the US economy.  More sand into the gearworks, when the gears fail there will be little accountability.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YES
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YES

Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=204&chamber=S&congress=1121
Vote Passed (95-0, 1 Present, 4 Not Voting)
The Senate voted to repeal a requirement that government agencies withhold 3 percent of payments to government contractors.  The chamber amended the bill to give tax credits to companies that hire unemployed veterans.  The House is expected to take up the amended bill after the Veterans Day recess.  A unanimous vote, surely endorsed by every lobbyist on the east coast.  When you see the lack of success in special projects by government, it is obvious that government is paying their bill too early.  Too many advance billings on undelivered products.  Politicians suck.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YESSen. Johnny Isakson voted YES
Upcoming Votes:
Energy-Water, Financial Services, State-Foreign Operations appropriations - H.R.2354
The Senate is scheduled to work on this bill combining the 2012 Energy-Water, Financial Services, and State-Foreign Operations appropriations bills.

Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act - H.R.674
The House is scheduled to take up the amended version of the bill to repeal a 3 percent withholding requirement on government contractor payments.  The Senate amended the bill to include tax credits for companies hiring unemployed veterans.

Coast Guard authorization - H.R.2838
The House is also scheduled to work on this three-year Coast Guard authorization bill.

Balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution - H.J.Res.2
The House may also take up this balanced-budget constitutional amendment.
The house can pass something like this, but why the hell spend any time on it. Everybody, and I mean everybody, knows that the Senate won't approve it and the President will veto it.  Besides, having a balanced budget only means they will have to 1) raise taxes, 2) increase the money supply and 3) endorse more illegal immigration so the economy continues to grow in a manner that permits expenditure growth.

National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 - H.R.822
This House bill would allow citizens with permits to carry concealed firearms in their home states to carry the firearm in other states. I am all for it, and think that with Reid being a gun supporter might even suggest passage in the Senate.  This stuff scares the crap out of liberals, therefore the Democrats would insist on loophole ammendments that would permit local and state governments the right to opt out.

How Deer Think

                            Ted Nugent

Forwarded by a friend, Ted is sort of like the Charles Barkley of rock and roll, way past his prime and unafraid to speak his mind.

Ted Nugent, rock star and avid bow hunter from Michigan , was being interviewed by a liberal journalist, an animal rights activist.  The discussion came around to deer hunting.

The journalist asked, 'What do you think is the last thought in the head of a deer before you shoot him? Is it, 'Are you my friend?' or is it 'Are you the one who killed my brother?

Nugent replied, 'Deer aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, what am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the Democrats in Congress.'

The interview ended.

Where Was I In 1992

Apparently in limbo, or something like that.
Twice to today, I have heard references to a song called "Baby Got Back".
First a local radio station spoke of am ap to be released on iTunes, then on Sirius Radio they played the song.
The song is written and performed by a gentleman named Anthony Ray, also known as Sir Mix-a-Lot.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Mix-a-Lot
This is fairly nasty stuff, the first verse includes "I like big butts and I cannot lie...", but nothing worse than anything David Alan Coe ever did.
Enjoy...

Hopefully I did hear this 19 years ago and selectively repressed.

Welcome to the Dark Side

My brother, who last I remember based his political decisions on what Howard Stern had to say, sent me a link to this nine minute Newt clip. It sees that my brother is now beginning tot see the light. As always Newt speaks on government with confidence of a historian, which he is. As he was my representative to Congress I was sorry to see him retire, but now am glad to see him re-engaged. As for my brother, let us hope he does not revert to following the advice of a man whose main media skill is to titilate.

60% Favor Considering Spending Cuts in Every Government Program

Count me in.  I would start with a global freeze on all escalating factors. Then have the gang of twelve partisians agree to percentage cut that universally forces all departments to cut expeditures the same amount. Take the politcis out of it, don't exclude any areas of expediture.
Heck, I would be happy if they would freeze spending at 2008 levels.

Upcoming Congressional Bills -
* Senate: Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act
* Senate: Fiscal 2012 Appropriations
* Senate: Net neutrality disapproval

Editor's Note:  The House is not in session this week.   Good, that should give the gang of 12 more time to come to the same conclusion that the rest of the country made when they were formed, that they incapable of reaching an intelligent plan to reduce deficit spending by an ineffective amount over 10 freaking years.
Recent Senate Votes:
Vote Passed (69-30, 1 Not Voting)
The Senate passed this minibus bill making appropriations for the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development.  The bill provides the five departments with $128 billion in discretionary funds for the 2012 fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2011.  House and Senate conferees have begun meeting to work out a compromise bill.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted   NO
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted   NO
Both trying to show a stand for Georgia farmers.
Motion to Proceed; Rebuild America Jobs Act
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=195&chamber=S&congress=1121
Vote Rejected (51-49)
The Senate fell short of the 60 vote threshold needed to move forward on this part of the presidents jobs bill that would have provided $60 billion for transportation projects and created a national infrastructure bank.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted NO
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted NO
Party line vote, what should be embarassing is that the Democrat Senators voted to close discussion on what EVERYBODY knows is a worthless bullshit candidacy play by the President.

Motion to Proceed; Long-Term Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2011
http://capwiz.com/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=196&chamber=S&congress=1121
Vote Rejected (47-53)
The Senate also fell short of the 60 votes needed to move forward on the Republican alternative that would have reauthorized highway programs for two years and overhauled certain regulations.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YES
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YESBasically a subset of the previous, one that all agree on value of but killed by folks that are saddled with passing the bigger load of crap.

Upcoming Votes:
Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act - H.R.674
The Senate is scheduled to take up this House bill to repeal a 3 percent withholding requirement on government contractor payments.

Fiscal 2012 Appropriations - H.R.2354
The Senate is also scheduled to begin work on this bill combining the 2012 Energy-Water, Financial Services, and State-Foreign Operations appropriations bills.

Net neutrality disapproval - S.J.Res.6
This Senate resolution would disapprove of the Federal Communications Commissions "net neutrality" regulations adopted in December 2010.
Smells like an attempt to back up liberal censureship.

Let's Do The Time Warp Again

It's just a trunk to left.

Shamelessly stolen from the 99%, somewhere out there on the internet.

The 99%

That is really about 35%, people who like to write gibberish, not unlike me.
In the end these mini-authors are simply parroting each others actions.
If the 99% were as unified as they claim, wouldn't it be necessary for one person to write the message.  Hell if they are all on the same page why do they even have to write anything.
They are a much smaller group than they claim, and as individuals seeking to be unique by copying other's ideas.
This fella has it right, concise sarcasm goes a long way.

Quincy

My yellow labrador, John Henry, of nearly twelve years passed three weeks ago.
He was a gorgeous dog just eat up with character.
Since CB (my bride) retired, the two had become almost inseparable.
She was devestated as was I.
So bad was the feeling that we were desperate to find another dog.
CB settled on and English Cream Golden Retreiver.
He's a good looking pup, don't you think?

Political Correctness a Serious Problem?

You tell me.  Today's Rasmussen poll says....

79% See Political Correctness As Serious Problem in America

Political correctness is an axe that only swings to the right. There are much tougher consequences for infractions by conservatives. In part because the true believers of liberal dogma are more willing to throw around threats of boycotts and financial repercussions. Threats to shut down business run contrary to conservative belief, so they are no inclined to play the card. In recent cases of consequence, such as with Don Imus and Hank Williams Jr., the media concerns, which are sympathetic to liberal positions, took the threats seriously. They fear the impact, maybe they are accurate, but I doubt it.

MegaVote: GA 13th, 10/31/2011

Comments in bluuuuuue....

Congress.org (congress.org) presents:  M E G A V O T E  October 31, 2011

In this MegaVote for Georgia's 13th Congressional District:

Recent Congressional Votes -
* House: Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act
* House: Modify Income Calculation for Eligibility for Certain Health Programs
* House: Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act

Upcoming Congressional Bills -
* Senate: FY2012 Appropriations
* House: Entrepreneur Access to Capital Act

Recent House Votes:
Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act, Vote Passed (235-186, 12 Not Voting)
The House passed this bill to transfer a parcel of federal land near Superior, AZ to Resolution Copper Mining.  The Senate is unlikely to approve the measure.
Rep. David Scott voted NO

Modify Income Calculation for Eligibility for Certain Health Programs;  Vote Passed (262-157, 14 Not Voting)
This House bill would take into account a persons Social Security benefits when determining eligibility for government health care programs.  The 2010 health care law excludes Social Security when calculating eligibility.  The bill is intended to pay for revenue lost due to H.R.674.  The White House supports this measure.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
The dichotomy inthe Democratic party is interesting here.  The White House supports the inclusion of income from Social Security while the party rank and file do not.  I take this to mean that the President is true to his desire that costs need to be held, and thathte party regulars see this as a wedge issue to be hammered upon the Republican in the next election.  My opinion is that income is income, and if there are thresholds that preclude applicants from getting additional benefits then all income should apply.
Government Contractor Withholding Repeal Act,  Vote Passed (405-16, 12 Not Voting)
The House voted to repeal a requirement that government agencies withhold 3 percent of payments to government contractors.  The bill will be paired with H.R.2576 and sent to the Senate.  The White House has also expressed support for the withholding measure.
Rep. David Scott voted YES  Here is an Act which shows complete rejection of the President's position, a true bi-partisan vote.
Upcoming Votes:
FY2012 Appropriations - H.R.2112
The Senate is scheduled to work on this "Minibus" bill that combines the fiscal 2012 Agriculture, Commerce-Justice-Science (S 1572) and Transportation-HUD (S 1596) appropriations bills.   They can't help but fail at everything they touch.

Entrepreneur Access to Capital Act - H.R.2930
This House bill would allow start-ups to raise $1 million without having to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission, or $2 million if they provide audited financial statements.  I may follow this, my initial questions center on whether or not this applies to persons starting ventures that will not be publically held.  The government should have no business in forcing registration with the SEC for privately held companies of any size.
