Gubmint PO-sition

The interviewer asks him, "Are you allergic to anything?"
He replies, "Yes, caffeine. I can't drink coffee."
"Ok, Have you ever been in the military service?"
"Yes," he says, "I was in Afghanistan for one tour."
The interviewer says, "That will give you five extra points toward employment."
Then he asks, "Are you disabled in any way?"
The guy says, "Yes. A bomb exploded near me and I lost both my testicles."
The interviewer grimaces and then says, "Disabled in your country's service! Well, that qualifies for extra bonus points. Okay. Looking at the regulations you have got enough points for me to hire you right now. Our normal hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. You can start tomorrow at 10:00 am, and plan on starting at 10:00 am every day."
"The guy is puzzled and asks, "If the work hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM, why don't you want me here until 10:00 am?"
"This is a government job," the interviewer says. "For the first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that."

The Boys Have Been Busy

And I have been pretty slack for a couple of weeks. Politics has pretty much soured on me in the last couple of months. Who besides me is sick of listening to Donald Trump talk about how much people love him? We generally vote Republican in this house, but with our Senators having lost all pretense of being conservative, living in a gerrymandered to Democratic majority congressional district and the prospect of an asshole being elected president, I might just pass on this round.

Congress.org presents MEGAVOTE for February 8, 2016 and Georgia's 13th Congressional District.

Recent Congressional Votes

  • Senate: Energy Policy – Cloture
  • House: Affordable Housing – Passage
  • House: Health Care Repeal Reconciliation – Presidential Veto Override
  • House: Iran Sanctions – Passage
  • House: Reduce SEC Regulation of Small Companies – Passage
  • House: Financial Institution Customer Protection – Passage

Upcoming Congressional Bills

  • Senate: Energy Policy
  • Senate: North Korea Sanctions
  • House: Limit on National Science Foundation Grants
  • House: Debt Reduction Plans
  • House: Menu Nutrition Disclosures

Recent Senate Votes:

Energy Policy – Cloture Vote Rejected (43-54, 3 Not Voting)
The Senate rejected a McConnell, R-Ky. cloture motion to end debate on the energy policy bill that would streamline permitting for gas exports, boost energy-efficiency standards for commercial and federal buildings, permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund and require grid infrastructure upgrades for reliability and security.
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YES
Sen. David Perdue voted YES
Who the hell really cares, from my perspective McConnell wanted to close discussion and the Georgia Senators agreed. The President kills everything that promotes private business growth anyway.

Recent House Votes:
Affordable Housing – Passage Vote Passed (427-0, 6 Not Voting)
The measure makes changes to various housing laws to try to extend affordable housing options to more low-income families. The measure allows Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and the owners of private subsidized housing to verify the income-based eligibility of families through other needs-tested federal programs; changes requirements regarding the inspection of housing units and eases Federal Housing Authority (FHA) requirements for mortgage insurance for condominiums.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
Guess we did not learn the lessons of 2007 did we? Here we have it again unanimous approval for pushing loans to people not fiscally qualified on their own. If you want to help people get loans for homes, construct a way for families save the money on their own, then the home becomes something they earned not mana from heaven. Pride in ownership fosters care in the investment.

Health Care Repeal Reconciliation – Presidential Veto Override Vote Failed (241-186, 6 Not Voting)
The House voted to attempt to override President Barack Obama’s veto of legislation that would have repealed or significantly modified numerous major provisions of the 2010 health care overhaul law. Two-thirds of those members present and voting yes were needed to override the veto.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
The inevitable result, way back to before it ever went to the President.

Iran Sanctions – Passage Vote Passed (246-181, 6 Not Voting)
The bill restricts the president's ability to lift sanctions on Iranian and other financial institutions as called for by the Iran Nuclear agreement, by allowing sanctions to be lifted only if the president certifies that the institutions have not knowingly helped fund Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards, foreign terrorist organizations and other entities sanctioned in connection with Iran's weapons of mass destruction or ballistic missile programs.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
This is kind of like closing the barn door after the prize cow already escaped. Give away what leverage you have on Iran without receiving anything in return and then say we're going to get really tough or else. Reminder, Iran never even signed the agreement. That said, on some defense issues David Scott gets it right.

Reduce SEC Regulation of Small Companies – Passage Vote Passed (265-159, 9 Not Voting)
The bill requires the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to conduct reviews of its existing regulations to determine whether any are outmoded, ineffective or excessively burdensome, and to modify or repeal rules based on those reviews.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
On face value the bill seems logical, periodic review leading to the sundown of obsolete or obstructive codes. What the right answer is, who knows, what seems best for the stock business is that it be dynamic, law enacted are going to be the construct of lobbyists protecting their fiefdoms or the inappropriate means of the governments maniacal social engineering.

Financial Institution Customer Protection – Passage Vote Passed (250-169, 14 Not Voting)
The legislation prohibits federal banking regulators from requesting that financial institutions terminate their relationships with specific customers or groups of customers unless the agency has a material reason for requesting that termination, and it modifies the 1989 Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act to restrict the conditions under which the Justice Department may conduct investigations involving financial institutions and seek civil penalties, including by limiting the department's subpoena authority.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
This looks like a reaction to some government bureaucrats over reaching their authority.

Upcoming Votes:
Energy Policy - S2012
The bill would streamline permitting for gas exports, boost energy-efficiency standards for commercial and federal buildings, permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund and require grid infrastructure upgrades for reliability and security.
Looks like the President will be inking up the veto pen.

North Korea Sanctions - HR757
The legislation would require mandatory sanctions on individuals that sell or buy North Korean minerals, including coal and steel.  It also would require the blacklisting of any individual complicit in North Korea’s nuclear and missile development and other illegal activities such as human rights abuses.
How dare an individual do business with North Korea? That is the President's domain, going back to Clinton. Presidents have been giving that little frozen turd of a country oil and food for 20 years, all that they have to do is promise to curtail nuclear development. We see how well that worked.
What do you get when cross North Korea with a US President?
Lies, all around.
And bad basketball games.

Limit on National Science Foundation Grants - HR3293
The bill would allow the National Science Foundation (NSF) to award grants or enter into cooperative agreements for basic research and science education only if it determines that the grant or cooperative agreement promotes the progress of science in the United States and is consistent with the NSF's mission.
Bureaucrats will be giving away money without oversight, at least until they screw up.
And they will screw up, but not any worse that the politicians.

Debt Reduction Plans - HR3442
The measure would require the Treasury secretary to appear before Congress within a couple of months before the federal government is projected to reach the legal debt limit and report on the state of the nation's public debt and the drivers of increasing debt, the impact of increasing debt and the administration's plans for reducing debt in the short, medium and long terms.
Why in the world do these politicians insist on applying monikers that belie the opposite intent.

Menu Nutrition Disclosures - HR2017
The bill would require the Food and Drug Administration to modify its rules regarding the nutrition information that restaurants and other retail food establishments must provide to customers.
Some times I think this is all a waste of time. After the politicians bankrupt the country, anarchy will prevail, society will devolve and we will be eating millet, not unlike the peasants in those epic Russian novels. Soon enough nobody will give a shit about all of these rules. I already do not give shit. If people do not care enough to learn about what they are putting in their bodies, the outlook is not very good anyway.

President Trump

I do not like Donald Trump any more now that he is a candidate, than before, but this is cute...
A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale hits the Middle East .
Two million Muslims die and over a million are injured.
Iraq , Iran and Syria are totally ruined and the governments don't know where to start with providing help to rebuild.
The rest of the world is in shock.
Britain is sending troops to help keep the peace.
Saudi Arabia is sending oil & monetary assistance
Latin American countries are sending clothing.
New Zealand and Australia are sending sheep, cattle and food crops.
The Asian countries are sending labor to assist in rebuilding the infrastructure.
Canada is sending medical teams and supplies.
President Trump, not to be outdone, is sending back two million replacement Muslims.
God Bless President Trump

Irish Priest Transferred to Texas ....

Father O'Malley rose from his bed one morning. It was a fine spring day in his new west Texas mission parish.

He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath of the beautiful day outside. He then noticed there was . . . a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn. He promptly called the local police station. The conversation went like this...

"Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones. How might I help you?"

"And the best of the day te yerself. This is Father O'Malley at St. Ann 's Catholic Church. There's a jackass lying dead in me front lawn and would ye be so kind as to send a couple o'yer lads to take care of the matter?"

Sergeant Jones, considering himself to be quite a wit  and recognizing the foreign accent, thought  he would have a little fun with the good father, replied, "Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of the last rites!"

There was dead silence on the line for a moment...

Father O'Malley then replied:

"Aye, 'tis certainly true; but we are also obliged to notify the  next of kin first, which is the reason for me call."
