Herzog and Dawson Inducted
This weekend Andre Dawson, Whitey Herzog and Doug Harvey were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. What a refreshing class, three men beyond reproach.
Andre Dawson was an excellent outfielder with teh Montreal Expos and later the Chicago Cubs. He accomplished 438 home runs and 2,774 hits and earned multiple Gold Gloves for work in the field. Long respected as being a hard worker, Dawson was most appreciated in Chicago where he was the catalyst for period of Cub emergence.
Whitey Herzog was a manager that I came to enjoy during his time with the Kansas City Royals, during the seventies he built a club that was perennially in the playoffs and stocked with home grown talent. His teams had great fielding players like Frank White, Amos Otis, Willie McGee and Ozzie Smith. He loved to field and run, winning a World Series in St Louis.
I'll repeat that it was refreshing to see a class group of men, untainted by steroids, attitude or money grubbing enter the Hall.
With the induction of Andre Dawson, I hold hope for Dale Murphy. Both outfielders have similar numbers for home runs, Silver Sluggers and Gold Gloves. Murphy got two MVP's. In the eighties you couldn't run on either of them.

Bad News
Received today an update from Rasmussen, John McCain has extended his lead over GOP candidate by 20 percentage points. We've all seen the ads where he talks tough about border security but I for one don't believe a word of it. John McCain, like Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is the epitome of the RINO acronym. Republicans in name only, these are men who get boner for being conciliatory on bi-partisan issues. McCain has reached across the isle on alien amnesty, campaign reform and other hard issues. No doubt such men are needed for a happy world, but the false representation that Senator McCain is portraying is dishonest.
His adversary, J.D. Hayworth is a polarizing figure, really not the best choice for the voters. Now Hayworth lags in the polls by a 34% to 54% division. He has no chance.

75% Say Free Markets Better Than Government Management of Economy, Political Class Disagrees
I wonder if I would be considered a political class voter. Probably not, this is not surprising, 3 to 1, the general public believes that government cannot manage the economy better the natural flow of free trade. Hayek said it, it is fallacy for the elite to assume that economies can be scientifically described, let alone managed. Management is not possible, governments only tool is the restriction of free trade, favoring one entity over another. The best result government can hope for is to protect citizens from their own foolishness, the likelihood of that is very low. As long as there is ownership of property, the quest for property will continually probe new avenues, government cannot foretell where these people's capital or labor might go.

Let's see, the government takes money away from citizens that earn it, precluding them from the spending that income or investing the capital for the future. Then the government gives that money to the unemployed where it is spent on consumables, not in any manner is this money employed for the building of wealth. I understand that men and women need help in times of distress, but now we have the government extending benefits to over two years. At what point does the unemployed become employed? What the President says in this quotation is total bullshit. The government is taking money out of one person's pocket and putting it in another person's pocket. To a feeble minded government educated person, like myself, that is zero net equation. If you apply the tangential issue of missed capitalization opportunity, it is a net loss. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.......

This is a book written by Frederick August Hayek, published in 1988.
Hayek, who passed on 1992, is considered a preeminent economist of libertarian thought. FA Hayek was co-winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 1974 and was recipient of the Medal of Freedom in 1991. The professor taught at the Universities of London, Chicago, and Freiburg. The economist's models help form policies during the administration's of Reagan Margaret Thatcher.
A difficult read in the sense that some chapters were very academic in their construction. There was a great deal for the average person to glean.
The book begins with the tracing of progressive-liberal-socialist construct, flowing from the writing so Aristotle. Hayek says that Aristotle thought of the world as essentially static and did not understand the by-products of specialization and population concentrations. Aristotle held the hunter gatherer model of man in the highest esteem and sought a path to recover that innocence. Hayek then goes on to show that agriculture, population concentration and specialization are what develop wealth. Later in the 19th century, Hume, Bismark and other socialists began to equate the new evolution theories to social economic development, these took on the persona of the scientists that espoused them. The belief that economic evolution can be explained by scientific means. What Hayek shows is that economic rules and morals are created within society by millions of separate exchanges all of which are driven by individual purpose but few unifying community interests. Such rules, such as thou shall not steal cannot be scientifically derived, in fact on the hunter-gatherer mode, such as the Spartans, stealing is considered a skill.
If I may condense, Hayek says that economies are always changing, changing by the perceived efficiencies of those doing the trading. The presumption that governments can control a self-correcting process is naive.
And, that the right to own property (serveral property) is the motivating force behind specialization and wealth building.

This surprises me. The Democratic past and candidate governor of Georgia announcing that he supports a position contrary to the Federal Executive. The man who ran through the flag change over the general electorate's decision not to do so, has a reputation of choosing the unpopular path. As a Mableton resident, his home turf, we know Governor Barnes to be a man of great arrogance, despised by teachers.
So, the Republican candidate of my choice, Karen Handel, and the likely Democratic candidate for governor both support Arizona's actions. Good for us.
Can't help but imagine that Barnes is lying, I expect if elected, he would would promote some symbolic but ineffective gesture action.

Johnstown, PA (GlossyNews) - Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural Johnstown, Pennsylvania, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle gang rally this weekend. Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers "duct taped inside several fast food restaurant dumpsters," according to police officials.
"Something just went wrong," said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. "Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong." The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activist groups, "growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats," decided to protest the annual motorcycle club event "in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motor bike seats." "In fact," said the organizer, "motorcycle gangs are one of the biggest abusers of wearing leather, and we decided it was high time that we let them know that we disagree with them using it. Ergo, they should stop."
According to witnesses, protesters arrived at the event in a vintage 1960's era Volkswagen van and began to pelt the gang members with balloons filled with red colored water, simulating blood, and shouting "you're murderers" to passers by. This, evidently, is when the brouhaha began.
"They peed on me!!!" charged one activist. "They grabbed me, said I looked like I was French, started calling me 'La Trene', and duct taped me to a tree so they could pee on me all day!"
Still others claimed they were forced to eat hamburgers and hot dogs under duress. Those who resisted were allegedly held down while several bikers "farted on their heads."
Police officials declined comments on any leads or arrests due to the ongoing nature of the investigation; however, organizers for the motorcycle club rally expressed "surprise" at the allegations.
"That's preposterous," said one high-ranking member of the biker organizing committee. "We were having a party, and these people showed up and were very rude to us. They threw things at us, called us names, and tried to ruin the entire event. So, what did we do? We invited them to the party! What could be more friendly than that? You know, just because we are all members of motorcycle clubs does not mean we do not care about inclusiveness. Personally, I think it shows a lack of character for them to be saying such nasty things about us after we bent over backwards to make them feel welcome."
When confronted with the allegations of force-feeding the activists meat, using them as ad hoc latrines, leaving them incapacitated in fast food restaurant dumpsters, and 'farting on their heads,' the organizer declined to comment in detail. "That's just our secret handshake," assured the organizer.

The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small circular number above the walls light up sequentially.
They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.Then the walls opened up again and a gorgeous, voluptuous 24 year-old blonde woman stepped out.

This child attends a school in Kansas City , Mo. Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong. It's pronounced "Ledasha", When the Mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said, "the dash don't be silent."

Cool Drink
I enjoy a monthly magazine called Gun and Garden very much. It is kind of a Southern Living with concentration on the title. Like Southern Living, Gun and Garden has great recipes for game, vegetables and drinks.
Last month, this one caught my eye; I waited for the July 4th holiday weekend and fixed a batch. The drink is cold, sweet and strong, a little like a Long Island Ice Tea freezer pop.
Copied verbatim from the Gun and Garden website, this drink is called the Bourbon Slush.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups water
- 2 cups strong tea
- 2 cups bourbon
- 1 cup sugar
- One 6-ounce container frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
- One 6-ounce container frozen lemon juice concentrate, thawed
- Garnish: Mint sprigs or lemon slices (optional)
- Combine the water, tea, bourbon, sugar, orange and lemon juice concentrate in a large container or bowl, and mix until sugar dissolves.
- Pour into two gallon-size freezer bags.
- Freeze until an hour before serving.
- Place the frozen punch in a large bowl and let thaw, breaking up every 15 minutes.
- When punch is melted, add more ice or water as desired.
- Serve in punch cups.
- Garnish, if desired.
- 2 cups water
- 1 family-size or 4 regular tea bags
- Boil the water. Add the tea bag(s) and let steep until cool. Discard the tea bag(s) and set aside

Arizona Central reports from their Mexico City Bureau that children are receiving focused training in reaction to common gunfire exchanges.
Not unlike the cartoon films we were shown in grade school. Then the United States feared nuclear war, this for the Mexican children is much more probable. I think this is probably good advice, however sad the need may be.

Our illustrious representative Scott voted for the "Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act", legislation written by two congressmen that bear significant responsibility for our current financial situation. Both advocated, strongly, federal pressure to extend loans to less qualified applicants, that in an effort to get home ownership over the 65% mark. In that incentives were created so that Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae extended risky loans. Intended for the poor, this grew into a housing bubble, middle and upper class home buyers stretched their credit beyond their income. Lots of people lost their homes, many have yet to loose their homes. Then these two cretins blamed Bush and had the audacity to create new legislation designed to correct a problem they helped create.
Add in the thoughtless voting pattern of our 13th district representative, he helps pass legislation that everybody knows won't work. At least now he can says that he tried.

The Woman Marine Pilot

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it. The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.
There were all the regular types of stuff: spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, much to her dismay, that only Janie was left.
“Janie, do you have a story to share?'
''Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy. She was a Marine pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.
She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break, and then her parachute landed her right in the middle of 20 Iraqi troops. She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands.
''Good Heavens,' said the horrified teacher. 'What did your Daddy tell you was the moral to this horrible story?

The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady said, "Lady, don't you care about the children of Iraq?"
The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam. All three died so you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country. If you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."

Damon Evans finally got the boot for being caught in a car, drunk driving, an errant woman's panties in his lap. As a Georgia Tech fan I think we should all lie low and not throw stones. No school is perfect at the people is chooses to work, or the players is asks to play. People are fallible.
This does not reflect on others in our state's long line of respected and even historic ADs, such as Bobby Dodd, Homer Rice and even I dare say Vince Dooley.
That said, Damon Evans did something I respect in no man, cheated on his wife.
No extra money should have been awarded for past services.
He embarrassed his alma mater, he embarrassed employer, he disrespected his marriage.
Evans’ settlement: 3 months salary plus previously earned $100,000 bonus

Let's see, my man David Scott voted for a bill titled "Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act". When politicians get together and come up with names like that I immediately think that the intent is the opposte of the label. Since when have the Democrats passed legislation that tightens up on unions, not in my lifetime, good example being the recent proposals to take away secret balloting in unionization votes. We will see, but my tightening sphincter says somebody's getting screwed.

Moer opinion on the 21 dead near the Arizona border. Mexico cannot get ahold of its own internal problems, our President invites their President to the White House and Congress where he chastises the United States for zenophobia.
Well conditions in North America are causing Americans to change their opinion, maybe zenophobia isn't the same as being a racists as our Comander in Cheif might suggest.

A Harley biker is riding by the zoo in Washington , DC
Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.
The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.
Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.
A reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ' Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life. '
The Harley rider replies, ' Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right. '
The reporter says, ' Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I ' m a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page. So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have? '
The biker replies, 'I'm a U.S. Marine and a Conservative Republican.'
The journalist leaves.
The following morning the biker buys the paper to see news of his actions, and reads on the front page:

Today's AJC carries the Associated Press description of a gang battle just south of the Arizona border.
These unfortunate men are gathered south of our border, fighting over drugs and potential mules for carrying their product into Arizona.
Less of them is a good thing.
Don't you feel safer that our bleeding-heart president sent 1,200 troops to Arizona to support the desk jockeys? The chicken-shit only knows how to use force when when people complain, against his own.
His countrymen protest government health care, he rams that sucker home.
His allies build homes in their own cities, he threatens them.
The police arrest a man for resisting, he calls the department out on the carpet.
Arizona passes a law that requires enforcement of federal law, and he threatens injunctions.
Arizona should kick the Federal government out of the state and use their own National Guard or militia to place land mines in the southern border.
