That's My Dog

My bride picked this dog, Quincy, four years ago.  Picked it because it was handsome and cute hiding from the other pups. She picked the runt of the litter. What we got was what she picked, a handsome English Cream Retriever that is absolutely scared of everything.
The other day he had a skin irritation, so we pulled out the cone. After his dinner we slipped the cone onto Quincy's neck and for the next half hour he sat there motionless afraid to move.

I had to help him lay down so he would relax.
Quincy is a sweet dog and I wouldn't give him up for anything, but this made me laugh.

Branch Manager

Not sure where this picture came from but as a dog lover it is funny.
As an engineering manager (aka assistant) it is a common to get the short end of the stick.

Muddy Tracks

Our dog is about the most handsome dog I've had.
He is affectionate and engaging.

But, having been weaned on a farm, he likes the outdoors, and a white dog cannot spend too much time outside when it is wet.

Quincy  makes one of these old folks tubs look appealing. The bubble is ominous though, if they are willing to offer $1,000 off before we even talk, the price must be up there. There would be the added benefit that if I am still in this house 15 years from now, I'll be able to get in the tub before the knee replacement that is surely in my future.

By 2028 I'll have moved on to cats, that is if I can figure out what they are on earth for, or one that likes me more than I like it.

Quincy

My yellow labrador, John Henry, of nearly twelve years passed three weeks ago.
He was a gorgeous dog just eat up with character.
Since CB (my bride) retired, the two had become almost inseparable.
She was devestated as was I.
So bad was the feeling that we were desperate to find another dog.
CB settled on and English Cream Golden Retreiver.
He's a good looking pup, don't you think?

Boudie

Short for Boudreax, this is a neighbor's dog.
He makes grunting growling noises and stands about 10 inches high.

Pretty damned cute dog.

Vacation

My niece and nephew just spent a week with the bride and I.
Annie is a good big sister, who won the easy approval of my dog.

Thomas is smart boy who wants a dog.

Eating from the Box

My dog has been struggling with allergies for about two years. A strange thing to start at age 9. The allergies caused John Henry to scratch and loose his appetite. A handsome dog, his fur began to become patchy and scabs were present. Anyway, after a long struggle with dog collars, steroids and antihistamines we are finally giving the yellow lab shots that have much improved his weight and coat.
For years we fed him only IAMS dry food, during this struggle the bride started hand feeding and cooking him special meals. He cut really fussy about what he ate. Now with the shots, that has improved, here he is eating right out of the storage container, dry food. He couldn't wait for me to finish pouring it out of the bag before he had his head stuck in there.

Nowadays, the cheaper the food, the more he likes it.

Tic Tac Dog

My poor dog has an itching problem.  This has been going on for almost two years.  Last week we had some tests performed, and viola, I am 800$ poorer and still have a dog that can't stop itching without sedation.
The dots on his skin are where the vet did a series of scratch tests.  The playful side of me is tempted to create a connect the dots piece of artwork using a Sharpie.  John Henry wouldn't care.

Now I'm a Believer

This was one of the two Valentine's Day cards that I received.
My dog looked just like these when he was young.
The bride is good at cards and such

Bailey

My brother's labrador retriever passed away this fall.
We found out a little later and am sorry for the pain that caused Callie and Julia.
She had chocolate color, stumpy legs, was always shedding like crazy and never, ever, had mean moment.
She was a good dog.
The bride likes to make a donation to the Atlanta Humane Society in these situations.
I'll post a picture of Bailey tommorrow.

My Dog Has One Of Those

For the last year we've been experimenting with foods, antibiotics, and steroids. No luck yet, leave John Henry alone for 10 minutes without the collar and he will lick himself to bleed.

A Friend Like Henry

A Christmas present that I finally got around to reading, from the wife, and looking at my last book report it seems she and I are in a pattern.
A Friend Like Henry is a story about a Scottish family that has a son Dale who at a very young age is discovered to have a severe case of autism. The family fails in its' struggles with communication until they obtain a Golden Retriever, named "Henry". The family learns to communicate with Dale using the dog as a sort of proxy. The success of this method is heartwarming, so much so that they decide to have another child. The good luck was only imagined though because the second child also develops autism. The tools learned though do help to start the daughter on the right path. Now Dale is integrated socially, virtually independent and his younger sister is mainstreamed in public school.
Through Dale's childhood, the dog ages and his demise is lamented.
This was an enjoyable, short read of 261 pages, published by Sourcebooks, Inc, written by the mother Naula Gardner.

I have attached a link to a YouTube film, showing the dog and family.

Toby

This was a neighbor's dog last month.

If you shoot at him with your finger and say "bang" he rolls over and plays dead.

Good Dog. Stay.

"Good Dog. Stay." was a book I gave to the bride for Christmas, which she started but did not finish. On my recent trip to Boston I knocked it out in less than an hour. The book is only 82 pages long and half of that is pictures.
Written by Anna Quindlen, who has reached beyond her career as a newspaper columnist writings has penned such New York Times best sellers as "Black and Blue" and "A Short Guide to a Happy Life". A great writer no doubt.
This is a tribute to her love of dogs, focusing on her own Labrador retrievers Beau and Bea.
Like "Marley and Me" the book has a poignant ending.
As an owner of a spoiled rotten yellow, this book was mostly fun to read.
A good present or Christmas stocking stuffer.

Madamoiselle Melissa "Missy" Lewis

Our Little girl, was so gentle & sweet. but one thing for sure, she gave unconditionally to us as comfort, love, understanding. And Being our little human like being.

September 11, 2008 was a very sad day for me, for tears gently rolled down off my cheeks, as Missy, laid peacefully in my arms, on my lap to a quiet sleep. no more pain, no more struggles to take a breathe. She glanced at me as her Doctor, gave her the medicine to leave us. She was brave & at last with peace.

Missy was always by our bedside each and every night, no matter what. To go boating, riding in the car/van, Missy was adventurous. Watch dog from hell. and alpha dog of the house.
Missy bossed the "boys" around, that being Sir Groucho & Mervyn. Even us humans too. when to eat, and when to walk. Missy had us on her schedule of life.
In the winter months she would cuddle with you and be the doggy heater under the blanket.
she would nap at your feet, to nap in your seat while driving down the road on long trips.
But where ever you were, Missy never too far, she made our life grand to have her here.

Missy would nap on the boat, until she heard the anchor, and then little Peanut was already in the water and on land, barking at you to throw the ball. She was the best est of all companions could be. She came as a rescue dog, and left this earth as Queen of the house. but she will remain "Queen of our Hearts"... I will always love this lil' dog, the dog that took my heart.
And made me cry so hard that my heart still aches, aches, for her snoring, aches to hear her chewing on her paw, aches to have her boss me around to walk her...but I could go on forever on her and what she meant to us.
Dogs are great, and how they mean so much to us humans...we all can share stories, over a great supper, great conversation, and great wine.

Thank you Mr. John Otis, for allowing me to express my feelings, to which not many get to see.
