I’m not kneeling for the flag…
Over at Hot Air, found and article about Alejandro Villanueva, the Pittsburg Steeler who made news three years ago for refusing to kneel with teammates in their protest. Villanueva is a graduate of West Point and served in the Army Rangers, his pedigree completely explains his values and choices. Under social and team pressure the Ranger did apologize for appearing to stand apart from the rest of the team.
In that article there was a strange reference to another player, Stephon Tuitt.
We now have another member of the Steelers, defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt, refusing to join the sheep that is now the NFL. The Hot Air article said...
Stephon Tuitt has decided to dispense with the whole apology approach up front. In fact, Tuitt invites anyone who objects to perform an unnatural act on themselves
Naturally, this got my attention, so I did a little hunting and found the following Tweet.
Also I'm not kneeling for the flag and screw anybody who have a problem with that. My grandmother was a immigrant from the Carribean and age worked her ass off to bring 20 people over the right way. She had no money and educated herself to be a nurse. She living good now.
Have never been a big fan of Stephon Tuitt, since he reneged on his commitment to play football at Georgia Tech. That said, I do respect him for recognizing the work and difficulty undertaken by his family, and proudly standing by their side. The spelling and punctuation are Stephon's.

David Cutcliffe and the Duke Band
My brother Les is a huge Alabama fan, loves to travel and watch the games, has the means to do so. To kick off this year's season he came to Atlanta and was kind enough to share a ticket. Alabama was playing the Duke Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils are led by Peyton Manning's mentor David Cutcliffe, a man that I consider to be an arrogant jerk-off, good coach but a real prick. For the past few years he has enjoyed making fun the Georgia Tech triple option offense, comparing it to a high school offense. There really is no great science in any football offense, only a heard mentality of coaches that intimidated by what they cannot control. Admittedly Coach Cutcliffe has backed up his mouth and had good success against my alma mater.
Circling back to the game, after about a quarter, Alabama got is act together and started beating the feathers out of Duke. In the second half, in an attempt to eat up clock and slow the game down, he started running triple option plays, and fairly often. Duke even got penalized for some cut blocks.
I enjoy the triple option offense, run well it is more exciting than and pass happy spread scheme.
The last point I want to make is that the band for Duke has taken on the persona of their head coach in their arrogance. Pictured above the Duke band taunting Alabama fans before the game. Both are assholes and deserve the David Cup.

AmVets
The player protest thing that has been going on this year has bored me. The opinions of socially secluded, uneducated athletes, who have been coddled because of rare physical skills, do not interest me. They do interest the press which thrives on reporting conflict.
The players have the right to protest in the manner they choose.
The owners have the right to respond to the protests in the manner they choose, punishment in the form of restriction from participation is within their right.
The owners for the most part have acquiesced to the bitchy athletes, which is their right to do, a business choice.
The business choices of the players, owner and NFL collection have been detrimental to the business of professional football.
Viewership is significantly down, I have watched fewer games this season, perhaps one quarter what I usually would have watched.
The NFL as a collective business has responded curiously to this, they did call meetings with the players and while incentivized to end the protests, failed to accomplish that.
Editorials and commentary that I have encountered suggest that the NFL is unwilling to tackle the problem for fear that they will alienate the expected demographic powers of the next generation.
I see this is an acceptance of the growing victimization culture.
Claim you are a victim and the truth is secondary to the sound bite.
Anyway, turning round to the AmVets. This is an organization that I have ridden with in a number of motorcycle related charity events. The membership is intertwined with members of the Patriot Guard Riders of which I am a member. These are people that donate their time and money for causes centered on assisting the families of veterans.
AmVets created an advertisement and sought to have that played during the Super Bowl. The NFL rejected the AmVets advertisement on the grounds that it was too political. Now, I have not seen the advertisement, so it is possible that it may have been offensive, but to my experience, I seriously doubt that. The NFL has the right to do business with anybody it wishes to, or not to.
The NFL has chosen to support the political speech of players and suppress the opinions of patriots.
I have the right to to not watch the Super Bowl.
I will not.
Perhaps a better name for the game would be Super Bawl.

William Clay Mathews, Sr.
Following football Mathews entered the business world and achieved great success. He held executive positions with Bell and Howell, Hamilton Beach and Aerojet General where is was the chief executive officer.
Clay senior also had the good fortune to have two sons and four grandsons play in the NFL, two of which as still active today.
William Clay Mathews, Sr. was 88 years old.

Catfish Hunter
Was the best of many great Oakland Athletics pitchers in the 1970's. Jim Hunter was the best of the bunch. Seeing two votes catfish legislation made me think of him and my mother-in-law's Ford Taurus. I just learned that Mr. Hunter was, like my brother Bruce, a victim of ALS.

The bill authorizes $602.2 billion for discretionary defense spending in fiscal 2017, including $59 billion for operations overseas. It allows the Defense Department to plan and design a stateside facility to one day house the detainees currently held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. However, it keeps existing prohibitions on Guantanamo’s closure, including blocking any funds authorized in the bill to be used for actually constructing a stateside replacement. The bill requires women to register for the draft, starting Jan. 1, 2018, and creates a commission to examine whether the Selective Service is still needed.

So happy that both of my Georgia boys are part of the "in-crowd". Is it not interesting that all of the Democrats that voted agreed to block the closure of and replacement of Guantanamo? For all of the liberal's demagoguery, even cynical damned Senators can be pragmatic about defense.

It also temporarily alters the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to prohibit the EPA and states from requiring permits for the point source use of a pesticide, or the residue resulting from the use of a pesticide, that is registered under FIFRA.

Home Rule Act to further specify that all city funding is subject to Congress' annually appropriations process. It also alters the 1973 law to specify that the District has no authority to change the District's budget process as it relates to congressional review and approval.

When you get down to it, governing the city of Washington DC is a pain in the ass. All the political juice lives in the suburbs and leaves the city government in position only slightly more autonomous than the city of Detroit. They shouldn't be their own state, I guess they are doomed to a future of sucking the Federal teat. My guy voted no, but that is not unexpected, Democrats run the city government, therefore anything that might restrict the rights of that government must be protected.
Energy Policy Overhaul – PassageVote Passed (241-178, 14 Not Voting)
The bill includes all or parts of 37 House-passed measures including legislation that promote the accelerated development and construction of natural gas pipelines and hydropower projects by increasing the authority of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, require the agency to set hard deadlines for environmental reviews and permitting, and require the designation of at least 10 corridors across federal lands in the Eastern U.S. where pipelines could be built.
Rep. David Scott voted NO
Democrats resist industrial growth unless it is in China or Mexico.
Fiscal 2017 Energy-Water Appropriations – Federal Contractors and Sexual Orientation Discrimination Vote Agreed to (223-195, 15 Not Voting)
The amendment bars federal contractors from discriminating against employees on the basis of sexual orientation. However, the amendment could not violate certain portions of the Constitution.

It also bars the use of funds in the bill to close the Yucca Mountain license application, or to irrevocably remove Yucca Mountain as an option for repository.

Almost Par
I just resigned from a company that I gave over thirty years of continuous service. Cleaning out my desk revealed a collection of many cartoons and newsworthy scraps collected. This was from Newsweek magazine during the summer of 2000. So much has happened since.

The Problem With The World Cup
Is that they play soccer.
Two days ago the television was besieged with soccer.
Yesterday the United States team lost to Belgium.
Today it is old news.
The wave of soccer has crashed into the beach of America where the sports choices are more abundant and a lot of people don't give a shit about soccer.

Sunday Night
Sitting here doing a little work and thankful that I did not put money on the Denver Broncos.
My preference was for the old man Manning to win another Super Bowl before he retires, if only to shut off all of the questioning semi-experts in the media. Peyton Manning seems like a good guy who has pulled many mediocre teams into the playoffs.
While there is nothing wrong with Russel Wilson's play, he is fortunate to be in such a favorable situation having paid so little dues. I have little doubt that Wilson would not have done as well as RGIII in Washington, Andrew Luck has done in Indianapolis, perhaps even Ryan Tannehill in Miami.
36-0 now.

I'm a Maryland alum.We were very sorry to see Ralph leave Georgia Tech and I would have been happy to see him replace George O'Leary. Like many coaches, Friedgen speaks plainly. There can be little else inferred from the comments, Mr. Friedgen is not happy with the University of Maryland.

Charge the Mound
I see that Robin Ventura was named manager of the Chicago White Sox today. Cannot ever forget the fine third baseman as a young major leaguer charging Nolan on the mound. For his effort, getting knocked dizzy. Hope he is a better manager than he is a fighter.

This Is The Best Way To Win
Georgia Tech has a good men's baseball team this year. This year they have tied their own season high 22 ACC wins.
But, they have already lost their first game in the ACC tournament so it's not looking good for the title.
Last night they did something really rare, winning in the top of the 15th inning, two outs, by stealing home.

Two UGA Recruits Arrested
I can think of better ways to endear yourself to your future teamates and coaches.
About the only thing worse would be to mess with their girlfriends or wives.
Seems that recently the players over at Athens have been caught more than their fair share.
Would never claim that one school is better than another regarding kids behavior, like parenting it's a crap shoot, just do your best and react in a responsible way.

He's Getting Close

About a week ago in my post about the twenty-five coolest athletes of all-time, that Allen Iverson would end up in jail. This shows that he might be at the tipping point.
CNN reports that former NBA player berated an Atlanta policeman on Wednesday March 30. The car was pulled over for not signaling a lane change and then the Lamborghini was found to have a registration that lapsed in 2009. Iverson who was the passenger became irate and said to the officer...
The lying thing should be useful in prison. I wonder if bail bondsmen will use the title on the Lamborghini as collateral when the lawyers expect to be paid.
