Bereavement Leave

 Newsworthy from Portland, Oregon.

The city council of Portland voted to allow bereavement leave for employees who have had an abortion.

The President of the National Institute for Reproductive Health happily announced :

"It's important to recognize that employees need time to address their reproductive health needs, and they may need time to process what they're experiencing."

The deliberately deceptive moniker is silly enough, an unofficial self-titled "Institute" that is focused on protecting women's Supreme Court adjudicated right to kill unborn fetuses, has no interest in reproductive health.

I understand that a woman, or couple, that aborts a pregnancy, is bound to have remorse, if they have any conscience at all.  But is that not a recognition that the life has been ended.

The policy adopted by the city Portland inadvertently affirms the pro-life concept. Does anyone think that this was the intent?

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Outside

You learn that methanol from inside the house can kill.

As a follow up to the last post When Evil Meets Stupid.
Desperation leads people to bad decisions. On the site The Times of Israel is a story that should be confirmed, and due to the access not granted to the United States press, not immediately possible.
Hundreds die of poisoning in Iran as fake news suggests methanol cure for virus.
Standing over the still body of an intubated 5-year-old boy wearing nothing but a plastic diaper, an Iranian health care worker in a hazmat suit and mask begged the public for just one thing: Stop drinking industrial alcohol over fears about the new coronavirus.
The boy, now blind after his parents gave him toxic methanol in the mistaken belief it protects against the virus, is just one of hundreds of victims of an epidemic inside the pandemic now gripping Iran.
Iranian media reports nearly 300 people have been killed and more than 1,000 sickened so far by ingesting methanol across the Islamic Republic, where drinking alcohol is banned, and where those who do rely on bootleggers. It comes as fake remedies spread across social media in Iran, where people remain deeply suspicious of the government after it downplayed the crisis for days before it overwhelmed the country.
The desperation the people have leads them to take risks, in this case fatal risks.
Have empathy for the couple that drank fish tank cleaner, and for these frightened people who choose certain blindness and possibly death.
The news that I listen to suggests that infection rate curves are flattening, also that the because of initially poor testing, mortality rates may have been overestimated by orders of magnitude.
Praying that I am not wrong, and doing simple things to protect myself.
Stay safe.

When Evil Meets Stupid

It should probably not surprise us that the latest gambit Far Left progressives have deployed against Donald Trump is to blame him for some of the dumb things desperate people have done to try to protect themselves from coronavirus.
When Evil Meets Stupid
"I saw it sitting on the back shelf and thought, 'Hey, isn't that the stuff they're talking about on TV?' "
"We were afraid of getting sick."
The couple reportedly poured some of the fish tank cleaning chemical, chloroquine phosphate, into soda and drank it. They hoped it would stave off a coronavirus infection.
"Within thirty minutes of ingestion, the couple experienced immediate effects"
The man died, the woman nearly so. Now, aligned with the press, the wife is foisting blame upon the President. Lady, your husband was young enough to have enjoyed many years with you, now because you both misinterpreted what the President, you can't.
When this poor woman is alone in bed tonight, I doubt that the President is the focus of her depression, she is upset because of loss, that she hates the President is an entirely separate thing.
That is about as nice as I can muster for the lady.
On the other hand, BuzzFeed can pound sand.

Man Pulls Gun After "Denim Chicken" Crack

Found this at The Smoking Gun by way of BadBlue.

Man Pulls Gun After "Denim Chicken" Crack:
In a late-night confrontation outside a Kwik Stop convenience store, a Florida Man pointed a 9mm pistol at three men after one of them called the alleged gunman a “denim chicken,” a reference that would only make sense to fans of the TV show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
After reading the story, I am guessing that there is something being left out by the brothers. Isn't it weird that someone can be triggered into making death threats based on a reference to a show that nobody watches?

The Egg Came First This Time

From the site Coconuts Jakarta we see a variation on the age old question, which came first the chicken or the egg. A story titled
14-year-old Indonesian boy claims to have laid 20 eggs since 2015, hospital suspects eggs were deliberately inserted.
Do ya think?
Or is it feasible that some dumb child, with an anal fixation, has been sticking things up his ass for pleasure? Not that anything is wrong with that.
Apparently this has happened before. You have to love the comment...
In Indonesia, there are at least two people who have claimed that they can lay eggs through their anus. One was an old man, who was soon established by medical professionals to be, figuratively and literally, full of shit. The other is a teenage boy, whose case continues to confound doctors today.
The boy has a bright future as an imam, if he doesn't become some goat's bitch first.
At least the man writing the article isn't confounded by the boy who puts things up his ass.

Self Evaluation

Can be extremely difficult, but the process of stripping down to purpose, cause and effect can be liberating.

CBS Anchor Dickerson Says Media Ruined Its Own Reputation, Not Trump

The American public, consumers of news, does not have the attention span or the patience to labor over the minutia that many stories focus on. They do however assemble news through unsophisticated personal filters. The overarching media business understands this limitation and has allowed itself to slip into playing on the biases created by these filters. To sell, news is offered in a format the business has elected to sell to its target market. The combination of an uneducated market, liberally trained journalists and market focused product has evolved into a media system that has myopic view of the world.
Many consumers of journalism have training and belief sets that do not align with liberal dogma. These folks have, over the years, sloughed out the major media market consumption and sought alternative sources that, also focused, cater to their preferences.
Recently the more trusting followers of liberal based journalism, have been exposed to evidence, some real, some exaggerated, but evidence of journalistic deception and journalistic alignment with one party over another. These biased predilections, by way deductive reasoning, had been suspected by conservative consumers over many years. In the last presidential election, facts were exposed that confirmed said suspicions.
Forty years ago, a man I greatly respected, an educated well learned man, described Dan Rather, of CBS, as "Dan Smather", railing on and on about what liar the newsman was, This was the beginning of my doubt in network new anchors positions and willingness to tell the truth. Later Rather was exposed has creating fake news about G. W. Bush.
Here we have CBS host John Dickerson admitting to culpability in the ruination of its reputation. Should the networks go through the cathartic process and reshape purpose, the benefit could be for everyone.

Open Container

Undressed and carrying an open container; it seems almost redundant.
Drunk, Naked Guy Searching For Sex Partner Instead Ends Up Behind Bars
Joshua Ivy, eager to for some sex, got undressed in the parking lot and started banging on doors.
One of the folks inside called the police. It's more difficult for men, if a woman did this, she'd probably find satisfaction on the first or second knock.

Talkies

Before opening the link, I placed a personal bet against myself, guessing the race of the offender.

Shut the Hell Up

As the song goes, "I am the winner!".

Living in the south, this is a common occurrence that I've had the displeasure to experience.
Thinking about it though, I don't think the behavior is intended to offend, folks just act differently in public.

Gone With The Wind

Breitbart has taken journalism to new heights with the following story.
In an article titled Bar Brawl Erupts at Florida Sloppy Joe’s over Fart Police Say, a minor brawl is described.
Apparently, some regular farted, because he felt comfortable, I presume. Some nearby patrons took offense and things got a little physical.
The other couple left the establishment before police arrived. Ultimately, McBride, who police say smelled of alcohol, received hospital treatment and no charges were filed. The fight is now gone with the wind.
Been to the bar, its a great place. The doors are wide open and if there was some gas it would have been washed away like the happy memory of Ernest Hemingway.
Some people just cannot hold their gas.

They Can Be Frustrating

But self service kiosks are not so bad as to take a shit on the scanner.
Myself, after advice from my brother, avoid the self scanning machines like the plague. He is an upper level IT at large multi-national and reports that the protection on those units is sketchy.

Regardless, think this story is funny.

Man Pooped On Self-Checkout Scanner At Mart

According to criminal complaints, Murphy entered the Kroger and “stripped naked in front of” a male employee. The suspect, police noted, smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and staggered as he walked.
After disrobing, Murphy “defecated on U-Scan it,” investigators allege.
Classic.

Tow Headed

Kenneth Shupe is a tow truck driver who was called by the driver of a disabled car in Asheville, North Carolina. On arrival, he found that the disabled car was decorated with Bernie Sanders presidential campaign stickers. Being a Trump supporter, he elected not to help the female driver and suggested she get the government to come and give her a tow. He then left the scene of the automobile accident.

Trump-loving tow truck driver says God told him to leave disabled Bernie Sanders supporter stranded

Shupe asserts that he has had two recent customers with similar decorations on their car skip on payment. On learning that the woman was disabled he said would have stayed until another wrecker arrived if he had understood her condition. Video of the woman does not reveal a disability.

To me this is a similar issue to the the cases of bakers refusing to service gay marriages. Business owners take on the financial risk of self employment largely in part so that they can choose who they will work with, be their own boss.  For the individual self-employed, each client is buying a service, for which they will obtain skilled labor intent of fulfilling a need. If the self-employed has learned that a certain type of customer fails to complete payment, he has to right to refuse service. This is no different than cab drivers in New York refusing to pick up black and Hispanic fares.

Rode my motorcycle near Asheville this weekend, it is beautiful mountain country in the spring.

If You Think the Sky is Falling, Check out the Prophecies of the 1970s

A man, much smarter than me, suggests people look to history to develop an assessment on the quality of news media clairvoyance,
If You Think the Sky is Falling, Check out the Prophecies of the 1970s
We should all remember that published writers, reporters, novelists, professors, whatever, write what people will pay for. That money influences their position, and often leads to bandwagon styled news cycles.

Baby State

By way to the Foreign Policy daily update we learn that the Guardian has a story  describing a new law in UAE that requires mother to breast feed children until they are two years old.  My interest is heightened because (one) a brother lives there with his family, (two) the evolution (or lack thereof) of non-secular governments is interesting and  (three) breasts are important to me.

Excerpts from this article at the Guardian web site.
Social affairs minister warns it could mean that husbands sue wives who do not breastfeed.
The United Arab Emirates has passed a law requiring mothers to breastfeed their children until they are two years old. The clause was added to a children's rights law, but the social affairs minister, Mariam al-Roumi, said it raised the prospect of husbands suing wives who did not breastfeed.
"This part of the law can be a burden," Roumi was quoted as saying by the Emirati newspaper the National. "If the law forced women to breastfeed, this could lead to new court cases."
The Dubai-based group Out of the Blues, which supports mothers with postnatal illness, warned that the law could criminalise women when they are at their most vulnerable. "We are concerned that enacting a law that leaves mothers facing potential punishment could be a step too far," the group said.
Members of the UAE's federal national council, which passed the law, suggested wet nurses should be provided for children whose mothers had died or could not feed them.
"This is the right of every child for two years," Sultan al-Sammahi said. "If they do not have a mother or have been neglected, then they should get this right from someone else."
Another member, Ahmad al-Shamsi, said the law aimed to make breastfeeding "a duty and not an option" for able mothers. "This is part of raising a child. This is mandatory," he said. "Laws are not all about fines and penalties – some are also humane."
The law says all government offices must provide a nursery so working mothers can breastfeed, an existing regulation that has never been enforced.
Can sue the mother, that's rich.
My birth mother flew the coop when I was an infant, where is my recompense?
This subject has got to be a tough one for the liberals around the world.  Generally liberal support of Islamic world causes is standard, but this seriously encroaches on the rights of women. In Israel, women have rights that in many ways culturally exceed those in the United States, yet liberals continue to treat that country as a pariah. Female rights in the Muslim states are second to the men's rights, possibly trailing the rights of children and just ahead of goats.

Plastic Bread

This was forwarded to me by a friend. For Subway a twist on the “everything is fresh” reputation.
This is disgusting. I'll tell yalls. I'm purchasing my fresh food and not eating out.

Poor Choice of Words?

From a Nonwovens Industry trade website, the article title: Feminine hygiene market continues to grow

Feminine hygiene manufacturers continue to grapple with ways to expand their customer base in the already saturated markets of the developed world while responding to the ever-changing needs of customers in developing regions. The result has been a series of product introductions designed to woo new customers or keep existing customers longer.
