Whether or not China plans to invade Taiwan now, it is time for the United States to ditch decades of misguided policy. Among other things, Washington should, on an emergency basis, begin arming the island with the weapons it urgently needs.
Agreed, the United States should.be making an effort to project strength in the Pacific. Failure to do invites Chinese hegemony, even imperial colonialism. Alas, the current executive has forgone Ukraine, shown weakness toward North Korea, boldness is not in their toolbox.
Support of Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and many more allies is important for both economic and military defense.
I fear that our President’s group follows the age old State Department practice of appeasement. This form of diplomacy is, effectively, a series retreats with no planned outcome for the benefit of the United States.
