Money Votes

I see in the news today that the President got bitch slapped by the Supreme Court on two or three cases this week.  Things are looking up, he finally got stopped on the recess appointment fallacies. If there are any great thoughts that the rest here triggers, you'll recognize them by the blue italic font.
Congress.org presents: MEGAVOTE June 23, 2014 for Georgia's 13th Congressional District.
Recent Congressional Votes
  • Senate: Fiscal 2015 Appropriations Minibus 'Shell' - Cloture
  • House: Fiscal 2015 Defense Appropriations - Passage
Upcoming Congressional Bills
  • Senate: Workforce Investment Act Reauthorization
  • House: CFTC Reauthorization
Recent Senate Votes
Fiscal 2015 Appropriations Minibus 'Shell' - Cloture; Vote Agreed to (95-3, 2 Not Voting)
The Senate invoked cloture on the motion to proceed to the bill that would that would provide for $51.2 billion in discretionary spending in fiscal 2015 for the departments of Commerce and Justice and other science agencies such as NASA and the National Science Foundation. The bill is intended to serve as the legislative vehicle for the Senate's Commerce-Justice-Science, Transportation-HUD and Agriculture spending bills for fiscal 2015.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YES
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YES
It is really to bad that money for the criminal Attorney General from money for the Department of Justice. Court hearings and prosecutions have to continue, the only path suitable for leader Eric Holder is impeachment.
Recent House Votes
Fiscal 2015 Defense Appropriations - Passage; Vote Passed (340-73, 18 Not Voting)
The House passed a bill that would provide $570.4 billion in non-war discretionary funding for the Defense Department in fiscal 2015. It also would provide $79.4 billion in fiscal 2015 for contingency funds to support operations in Afghanistan and the general war on terrorism.
Rep. David Scott voted YES
Interesting that my Democratic Representative voted for non-war discretionary Defense Department expenditures.  These type of bills are where the money for illegal government programs come from.
Upcoming Votes
Workforce Investment Act Reauthorization - HR803
The Senate is expected to vote on this bill that would overhaul and reauthorize the 1998 Workforce Investment Act.
I did not know what the act was all about so checked around and Wikipedia says..
The law was enacted to replace the Job Training Partnership Act and certain other Federal job training law with new workforce investment systems (or workforce development). Enacted during Bill Clinton's second term, it represented an attempt to induce business to participate in the local delivery of Workforce Development Services. The principal vehicle for this was Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) which were to be chaired by private sector members of the local community. A majority of Board members were also required to represent business interests. Today, WIA funds can be used to fund workforce education and career pathways programs.
Among other things, this is money for job training.
CFTC Reauthorization - HR4413
The House is expected to vote on this bill that would reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and shield non-financial companies from some of the rules on derivatives in the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory overhaul.
This is supposed to protect investors, likely designed by brokerage lobbyists.
Dodd-Frank is a set of hollow words designed to feign protection, hell the creators were chiefly responsible for the 2008 crash.

Ebola

My first glimpse of the Aljazeera America website.
An estimated 330 people in Western Africa have died from contracting this horrible virus.
West Africa Ebola crisis 'out of control' - Africa - Al Jazeera English
This stuff scares the crap of of me. In Africa, you have continent of unstable governments, political upheaval, terrorist incubation and deadly disease.  It sounds like many innocent people are going to succumb.
Sorry for that.
The website, my first impression, is that it is a professional production.

Common Sense

The book Common Sense has been around for 228 years, first published in 1776.
Written by the pamphleteer Thomas Paine, born and raised in England and was relatively advanced in age before emigrating to America.
The short pamphlet, which was begun while he as still in England is an argument for independence and more so a repudiation of the King of England who at that time was George III. Much of the discourse is an argument against dynastic monarchies, in America's cases compounded by the expanse of the Atlantic ocean.
Paine as it turns out was an ardent supporter of revolution in general. After the American success he spent significant time in France and was involved tangentially in the politics leading to the revolution there and later the entrance of Napoleon Bonaparte into the power vacuum created.
I enjoyed the book and recommend it to persons hoping to gain insight on the mindset of persons that chose to fight for independence.
Later books that Paine wrote were also influential, The Age of Reason and Rights of Man, both of which I plan to obtain and read.

DNC Honors Wrong flag on Flag Day

Despite Featuring American Flag in their own logo, DNC Honors Wrong flag on Flag Day

In the end I don't really give two shits what the DNC thinks the flag should look like or if this was even intentional. Some "professional" media expert was responsible for sending out a Tweet with Flag Day as the topic, he or she picked the wrong picture.
Many of the retweets are on the spot, by persons more observant than myself.
Check out the amusing responses in this link to Twitter.

When I see folks picking on the President for getting some middle aged exercise; it makes me feel a little squeamish. Certainly a man who carries the burden of a country needs to relieve stress. Bush 43 was a runner, that seems more appropriate for a person of the people. Running is an expression of hard work  and urgency.  From the word of a person in the know, President Bush was an excellent runner with great speed and endurance. President Obama would be better served to exercise privately and play a less less golf in the public eye.  Golf this often suggests an attachment to enjoyment, something not swallowed easy by a public experiencing many negatives.

Eric Cantor Get’s Smoked

BREAKING: Eric Cantor Get’s Smoked by Tea Party Primary Rival
Now who will be Bohner's butt buddy?

All for More Recess

Not much going on here, we'll try to get something insulting in place.

Congress.org (congress.org) presents: MEGAVOTE, June 9, 2014, for Georgia's 13th Congressional District:

Recent Congressional Votes
  • Senate: Burwell Nomination - Confirmation
Upcoming Congressional Bills
  • House: Fiscal Year 2015 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act
The House was in recess last week.

Recent Senate Votes:

Burwell Nomination - Confirmation Vote Confirmed (78-17, 5 Not Voting)
The Senate confirmed President Barack Obama's nomination of Sylvia Mathews Burwell of West Virginia to be secretary of the Health and Human Services Department.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss voted YES
Sen. Johnny Isakson voted YES
Generally I would mistrust any appointee of the President, but it appears a bipartisan vote puts the right man in the right place. That or the wrong man in a spot where nobody gives a rat's ass.

Upcoming Votes:
Fiscal Year 2015 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act - HR4745
The bill would make appropriations for the Departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2015.
They will not pass a budget, but spending money on Departments can always be argued as a necessity.

We've Feigned Listening

Now we are going to repeat what we want, claim it is based in scientific truth, and deflect expected criticism by claiming some folks are going to be more healthy because of it.
Yes, it is White House spam again, normally I would applied the political label to this post but now I am considering changing the classification to Junk Mail.
Today's email from the Environmental Protection Agency under the banner of the White House...
Hi, everyone --
This past Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed national limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants for the first time.
Since then, folks across the country -- on editorial boards, in classrooms, on front porches -- have been weighing in on why this is so important. And with that in mind, here's something I want to make clear:
We’re already experiencing the effects of climate change today -- but don't just think about this proposed rule in terms of the country we're living in right now. Think about the one we and our children are going to be living in by 2030.
Thanks to these limits, that country will have a 30 percent reduction in carbon pollution from the power sector. It will also have 25 percent less smog and soot, meaning children will have an estimated 150,000 fewer asthma attacks each year -- and they'll miss an estimated 180,000 fewer days of school. Americans across the board will have up to 3,300 fewer heart attacks a year.
And now that the rule has been proposed, you can participate in the process.
Right now, we're accepting comments from the public about the proposed power plant rule.
So if you've got something to say, you can submit a public comment here.
And if you want to get some more details about why this is good for the environment and public health -- or spread the word about why it's a big deal -- you can take a look at this infographic, and then pass it on.
Right now, we're in the process of developing the policies that will keep our planet clean and our kids healthy for years to come.
You can participate in that process right now. So if you've got a comment, you can make it here.
Thanks,
Administrator Gina McCarthy
Environmental Protection Agency
Never mind the fact that there has been no increase in planetary temperature in the last 17 years. Never mind the fact that Congress refused to pass legislation of similar construct.  The President believes it, so he is going to do it.  This is poor decision making based on the conclusions of scientists fighting over government grants. Conclusions by nonobjective scientists that manipulate statistics in a manner that common sense would preclude.
Georgia generates a lot of electricity from coal, one of the largest generating plants in the country is less than 50 miles from my house.  This misguided overreaching is going to hurt the state of Georgia and cost me money.
I don't have asthma, nobody in my family does.
And I don't see any damned smog in the air.
These folks pretend like they have their ear to the pulse of the country; they do not.
Thanks for fucking us over you sanctimonious assholes.

War Over President Hugging

Normally I think of Joe Scarborough as a puppet of the MSNBC leadership, and by that pawn in White House strategic planning. This conversation, disagreement, with Chuck Todd strikes at the heart of some typical liberal attitudes toward criticism. It is the reporter's position is that to be critical of the parents is off bounds. I am in agreement with Mr. Scarborough on this one, it is normal to have empathy for the parents of a child at risk, it is not acceptable to use that as a shield for deflecting all criticism.
We see this over and over.
